Let's Eat!
Our Home's Monthly Potluck luncheon will be held first Sunday, August 3.
Each Sunday at 9:30 a.m. an Adult Forum is held at the church. These forums are well attended and are always interesting and thought provoking. We view short films, such as the Faith and Reason series, or discuss a topic of interest. (The discussions are always very lively!) This is a great time to learn more about our denomination as well as others and to get to know one another a little better. You are invited to attend.
During the month of June, Our Home Church took part in the National Religious Campaign Again Torture by displaying a banner which stated “Torture is a Moral Issue.” The Banners Across America initiative is a nationwide anti-torture campaign with three hundred congregations across the United States joining in an effort to mobilize the American faith community in opposition to U.S.-sponsored torture. Our Home’s minister, Rev. Fred L Hammond, also presented a sermon entitled “The Theology of Torture” the last Sunday in June. We are proud to have been a part of this campaign, and for more information see www.tortureisamoralissue.org!
We still have copies of the Our Home Centennial Cookbook which sell for $10.00 each. We also have copies of A New Universalism for a New Century by A.J. Mattill. This book was recently reprinted by the Universalist Convocation and sells for $10.00.
We continue to collect items for recycling. Containers have been set up in the back hallway of the church for collecting paper, plastic and aluminum. Please remember to wash all your items before bringing to the church.
We have some of the recipe card holders which are selling for $4.00 each. These are handmade and are for the purpose of covering some of the mailing costs to send much needed items to our friend, Nedko.
We are currently collecting items to send to the Nedko Popov Family in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. There will be drop off boxes inside the church if you'd like to participate. The following items have been requested...
Food items: Any canned food along with soups, dips, dried milk. Coffee, "espresso" in particular. Green tea and fruit tea (called "infusion" in England). Sweets and chocolates. Note: Canned foods could present a weight problem, and soft chocolates are not recommended for mailing due to melting.
Cosmetics: Body lotions, fragrances, nourishing creams for hands and face, etc.
Vitamins/supplements: Immunity building supplements such as "Airborne."
Clothes: Any donation toward the purchase of clothing and shoes will be appreciated.
